Highlight Reel for April 4

A BURST FOR ITS FIRST

The women’s lacrosse team (5–5; 1–5 NESCAC) earned its first NESCAC win of the season against Bates College (6–5; 2–4 NESCAC) on Wednesday evening. The team came out on top during the first quarter, scoring seven goals in the span of ten minutes and ending the quarter 8–1. Lauren Burke ’25 and Molly Reed ’27 scored two and three goals, respectively, in the first quarter to push Bowdoin to eventual success down the line. While the Bobcats closed the score margin steadily for the rest of the game, the team remained ahead going into halftime 12–6 and were up 14–10 headed into the final ten minutes of play. Miya Imaeda ’26 then scored, bumping up Bowdoin’s total score to 15, despite the fact that Bates locked in a pair of goals at the end of the fourth quarter. Next, the team heads to Colby College (8–1; 4–1 NESCAC) to play the Mules on April 9 at 7 p.m.

RUNNING FOR THE HILLS

At the UMass Lowell Invitational this past weekend, the track and field teams posted numerous podium finishes. Noah Rockey ’27 took home first in the men’s 400m dash with a time of 50.37 seconds, setting a Division III New England qualifying time. In the 1500m, Oliver Brandes ’27 won with a time of 4:03.78 and Seamus McDonough ’27 came in second, finishing in 4:06.58. The team also took the top four spots in the 800m, with Will Goddard ’25 winning in 1:55.76. Finally, the 4x400m relay teams all finished on the podium, with the top team finishing in 3:30.24. On the women’s side, Astrid McGuire ’28 won the 800m in 2:19.54 with Kaylee Hale ’28 coming in a close second with a time of 2:20.90. Sophie Maguire ’26 took second in the pole vault, putting up a 2.95m jump, and Juliette Coley ’28 took second in the triple jump as well, with a distance of 10.21m.

PUFF PUFF PASSED

The women’s side of the sailing team qualified for the Women’s New England Team Race Championships this weekend while racing at the Callahan Trophy hosted at home on the waters off of the Schiller Coastal Center. Kyra Phelan ’26, Maizie Bartlett ’27, Lauren Russler ’26, Mairead Reitzel ’28, Lulu Louchhiem ’25, Posie Cabaniss ’27, Kaile Olson ’27 and Rebecca Schill ’27 all competed in shifty wind conditions to qualify the Polar Bears for the championships later this season.
