Highlight Reel for April 18

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

The women’s golf team traveled to the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst College at The Orchards Golf Club this weekend, placing sixth overall. The invitational was shortened due to rain on Sunday, but regardless, the team carded 322 on Saturday, tying with Middlebury College. Emily Renoff ’28 secured a 78, tying for 17th individually and Katie Ng ’28 finished with a 79, also tying for 21st. Muzi Wei ’27 carded an 86, Shivani Schmulen ’26 took an 83 and Emilia Rose ’26 secured an 82 to round out the Polar Bears. This weekend, the team plays at the Williams Spring Invitational at Taconic Golf Club.

JUMPING THROUGH RECORDS

The track and field team posted exciting results this past weekend at the Friar Invitational at Providence College and the Carla Coffey Invitational at Smith College. At Providence, the Polar Bears mostly competed against Division I teams yet still came out on top. Astrid McGuire ’28 took the top spot for Bowdoin with a second-place finish in the women’s 800m. Kaylee Hale ’28 followed in fifth, and Oliver Brandes ’27 came in fourth in the men’s 800m. At the Carla Coffey Invite, Ian Stebbins ’25 broke the men’s pole vault record, winning with a height of 5m. Charlotte Hodge ’25 also broke the women’s pole vault record for the second consecutive week with a height of 3.91m. This weekend, the team will head to Colby College to participate in the Pine Tree Classic meet.

POLAR BEARS EAT TERRIERS

On Wednesday evening, the softball team (12–14; 1–9 NESCAC) dominated over Thomas College (9–14) in a midweek doubleheader, winning the games 10–5 and 3–2. In game one, Thomas started out with a 4–0 lead, but the Polar Bears quickly worked themselves up thanks to RBIs from Anika Ewert ’26, Reilly Parga ’28 and Kyla Gary ’25. Ava Biasotti ’26 pitched for the first four innings and Maddie Current ’26 pitched the final three. Combined, Current and Biasotti allowed 11 hits and Biasotti fanned four batters. In game two, the Polar Bears tied up the game in the third inning and continued back and forth with Thomas before concluding with a score of 3–2. Kathleen Hester ’27 finished the game with a shutout, and Penelope Fong-Picariello ’27 and Ewert each had two hits. The team plays at the University of Southern Maine (11–14) at 4 p.m. today.
