BYRD SOARS TO THE TOP

Last Thursday, men’s soccer star Drake Byrd ’21 was named to the All-American Second Team and the All-NESCAC First Team for Division III men’s soccer. En route to his honors, he had a stellar senior campaign, recording five goals and seven assists during the 2021 season. Across his decorated four-year soccer career at Bowdoin, he recorded 15 goals, 11 assists and 41 points. He is the first Polar Bear to receive All-American honors since 2018.

TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE

On November 30, volleyball stars Cori Gray ’22 and Sophia Pahl ’22 were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Team for Division III women’s volleyball. Gray received Third Team honors, as well as the NESCAC women’s volleyball Player of the Year award, while Pahl received an Honorable Mention. Gray ended her senior season as the conference leader in blocks, recording 93 in total and 0.96 per set, as well as recording 2.78 kills per set and 44 total service aces. She was named the NESCAC Player of the Week on two separate occasions during the fall. Pahl was ranked first in kills per set among the Polar Bears and in the conference, recording 3.16. Additionally, she led the Polar Bears in number of total service aces, slightly outperforming her teammate Gray and recording 50.

PUCKING GOOD WEEKEND

On November 28, the women’s hockey team captured the Codfish Bowl Championship in Boston. Following an 8-1 first round victory over Stevenson University, the Polar Bears defeated the University of Massachusetts at Bowdoin by a score of 4-2 in the final round. The Polar Bears were led by forward Izzi Stoddard ’21 who scored two goals in the final game and goalie Meagan Miranda ’23 who made 34 saves.
