Senior leadership restructuring brings new senior vice presidents for investments and communications

September 4, 2026

Bowdoin has appointed two new leaders to oversee its nearly $2.9 billion endowment and its communications operations, respectively, promoting Boris Raykin to senior vice president and chief investment officer (CIO) and naming Hellen Hom-Diamond senior vice president for communications and public affairs.

Raykin assumed the role of CIO on May 19, succeeding K. Niles Bryant, while Hom-Diamond began her new position on July 1.

As CIO, Raykin will collaborate with Bowdoin’s investment and operations teams, the Investment Committee and senior leadership to manage the College’s endowment, including its marketable-securities portfolio, public equities and absolute return strategies. Raykin will also supervise the College’s investment strategy and coordinate with institutional leadership to ensure Bowdoin’s long-term financial success.

Bryant, who previously served as Bowdoin’s CIO, transitioned to Sutton Place Limited, a private investment office that manages the long-term wealth, estate operations and investments of a global multigenerational family. Bryant announced his transition in December 2025 and departed the College the following spring, when the nationwide search for his successor commenced in earnest.

During his tenure, Bryant oversaw an unprecedented expansion of Bowdoin’s endowment, with investment performance placing the College among the top one percent of college and university endowments over one, five, ten and 20-year periods. Bowdoin’s endowment returned 15.3% during the 2025 fiscal year, making it one of the highest-performing endowments among academic institutions that year.

“The endowment plays an essential role in sustaining Bowdoin’s mission,” President Safa Zaki said in a Bowdoin News press release. “Boris [Raykin]’s investment expertise, institutional knowledge and commitment to advancing the College’s priorities make him an excellent choice for this role.”

As a member of the College’s investment team since 2021, Raykin most recently served as director of investments at Bowdoin’s investment office in New York City, where he managed various asset classes within the College’s endowment portfolio.

Prior to Bowdoin, Raykin served as director of public markets at Willett Advisors LLC, which manages the personal and philanthropic assets of Michael Bloomberg and Bloomberg Philanthropies. He previously led manager selection and asset allocation for equities and real assets at family office Granite Associates and worked as a director at Citi Private Bank.

Raykin currently teaches financial literacy sessions through Career Exploration and Development’s Sophomore Bootcamp and advises students on prospective careers in finance. He also orchestrates student visits for InvesTrek, a program pioneered by Bryant to introduce first-year students to the finance and Bowdoin’s endowment operations during a multi-day trip to New York City.

Through these initiatives, Raykin continues his predecessor’s efforts to connect students with financial professionals and provide insight into careers in the industry.

Hom-Diamond will lead Bowdoin’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs and its 16-member staff while serving on the College’s senior leadership team. Her role involves revamping digital strategies and engaging constituents through media, including news and content, external media relations, visual identity, publications and design.

In an email to the Bowdoin community, Zaki wrote about Hom-Diamond’s previous work.

“[Hom-Diamond] has helped institutions articulate who they are, build trust with the people they serve and tell their stories authentically,” Zaki wrote

Hom-Diamond most recently served as vice president for strategic marketing and communications at Trinity College, where she advised the president, Board of Trustees and senior leadership while collaborating with admissions, development and athletics to enhance the institution’s marketing and communications partnerships.

“A crucial aspect of my job is really getting to know the people and culture of Bowdoin,” Hom-Diamond wrote in an email to the Orient. “Every academic community is different, and it takes time to listen and discern what makes a community unique and what people value.”

Her other professional expertise includes three years as the chief communications officer at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.. For five years in a similar role at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., Hom-Diamond specialized in crisis communications, media relations and communications strategy within administration.

Hom-Diamond’s career also includes six years at Yale University, where she served as director of campus communications, and nine years leading online communications and alumni engagement initiatives with the UCLA Alumni Association based in LA.

“Among my top priorities is telling Bowdoin’s stories better to engage both our own community and to share positive stories more broadly with the world,” Hom-Diamond wrote.
