SHUTOUT

In its season opener, Bowdoin field hockey (1–1; 0–1 NESCAC) beat the University of New England (UNE) (1–2) 2–0 in a dominant performance. During the first and second quarters, the Polar Bears out-shot the Nor’easters 16–2, yet both teams were held scoreless. Eva Filipponi ’28, in her first career start as goalkeeper, made a key stop on a UNE surge and made Bowdoin’s lone save of the game. In the second half of the match, Emily Ferguson ’27 swiftly scored both of the team’s goals in the span of 13 minutes. Her pair of points pushed her career total to 28 goals. Bowdoin ended with an astounding 36–2 edge in shots in the contest and 14–1 lead in corners.

DOMINATION

Bowdoin women’s soccer (2–1–0; 1–1–0 NESCAC) celebrated its Senior Day with a 4–0 win over Amherst (1–2–0; 0–2–0 NESCAC) on Wednesday. The game started off with a pass from Ashley Ahn ’29 to Jackie Shores ’28, leading to the latter scoring an early goal. Cadence Lee ’27 followed this up with a blast over the top of the goalie to make the score 2–0 and two minutes later, Annabel Callahan ’29 topped the score off at 3–0. In the 21st minute, Shores scored her second goal of the night off of an immaculate header from Kayley Huleatt ’28. The Polar Bears out-shot the Mammoths 27–2 over the course of the outstanding game.

THE FALL CLASSIC

The Bowdoin sailing team is rearing to get its season started this Saturday at Harvard’s Charles Invite and MIT’s Toni Deutsch. Last year, Bowdoin finished third, fifth and eighth among the 18 boats at the Charles Invite and seventh out of 18 at the Toni Deutsch regatta. The two regattas are the first of many exciting events for the Polar Bears. The team will return to Boston for the MIT Hatch Brown Trophy, BC’s Women’s NE Singlehanded Nationals Qualifier and BU’s Regis Trophy next weekend. Other regattas this month include the Harry Anderson Trophy held by Yale and the Barnett Trophy hosted by Bowdoin at the Schiller Coastal Studies center.
