Division of Student Affairs announces two new staff appointments

January 28, 2022

In an email to the College community on Thursday, Senior Vice President and Dean for Student Affairs Janet Lohmann announced two new staff appointments in the Division of Student Affairs.

Katie Toro-Ferrari will serve as Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Director of Student Life, having previously held titles of Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Assistant to the Dean for Student Affairs. She will take on some of COVID-19 Resource Coordinator and Director of Residential and Student Life Mike Ranen’s responsibilities when he transitions to his new position as Associate Dean for Academic Administration in March. Additionally, she will lead student life at the College, working with the offices of Residential Life, Student Activities, the McKeen Center for the Common Good and the Bowdoin Outing Club.

Lohmann also announced in her email that Director of Residential Education and Associate Director of Student Life Whitney Hogan will transition to a role as the new Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Director of Residential Life, assuming the rest of Ranen’s current duties.

“[Hogan] will lead the Office of Residential Life in student leadership development, housing operations, and strategic partnerships with campus partners,” Lohmann wrote.

Both placements will go into effect March 1, 2022.
