Highlight Reel for February 27

February 26, 2026

MOVING ON

Last Saturday, the women’s basketball team (23–1; 10–0 NESCAC) took down the Tufts University Jumbos (13–12; 4–6 NESCAC) in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC tournament. The Polar Bears never trailed in the 73–56 win thanks to six early points from Grace Kinum ’28, who finished the game with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists. Abbie Quinn ’27 also scored 19 points with seven rebounds to round out the team’s potent offense, which led by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter. Morrell Gymnasium will be the site for both semifinal games as well as the final matchup this weekend with the Polar Bears playing Williams College (13–12; 5–5 NESCAC) at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

THAT’S A WRAP

Last weekend, the men’s hockey team (17–6–1; 13–4–1 NESCAC) concluded its regular season with split results versus Connecticut College (10–13–1; 6–11–1 NESCAC) and Tufts University (12–11–1; 9–9–0 NESCAC). On Friday night, Conn. scored in the first period for a 1–0 lead before Hunter Fetterolf ’28 buried the puck to tie the game. With no score in the third period, the game remained tied 2–2 and went into overtime when Justin Wright ’26 collected the rebound from Jayson Alegria’s ’29 shot to score the game-winning goal. The team dropped its Senior Day game versus Tufts 1–4 but remained the second seed in the upcoming NESCAC tournament. The Polar Bears will host Amherst College (12–10–2; 7–10–1 NESCAC) in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 4 p.m.

NAIL BITING FINISH

Last Saturday, the men’s basketball team (15–10; 5–5 NESCAC) nearly knocked off Trinity College (23–2; 8–2 NESCAC), in a thrilling 63–64 loss. The Polar Bears held a 30–28 lead after the first half of play with back-and-forth scoring from both teams. With less than a minute left, the Bantams had a four-point lead before Ray Cuevas ’28 drained a falling-away three-pointer plus the foul to give the Polar Bears a chance to tie the game. Cuevas missed the free throw, but the team rebounded the ball and quickly called a timeout. Cuevas took another three-pointer that went right to a pair of Polar Bears, but the final second tip-in attempt rimmed out. It was still a successful season for the team, as it made the postseason for the first time since 2022.
