Highlight Reel for February 21

February 20, 2025

‘TIS THE SKI-SON

The Nordic ski team finished sixth overall at the Middlebury Carnival this past weekend. For the women’s team, Emma Crum ’26 continued her successful season by skiing her way through the heats on Friday’s sprint races to qualify for the finals, where she finished in second. Jori Grialou ’26 made it to the semifinals, finishing in fourth and putting her in eighth place overall. Kira Gilbert ’26 competed in the quarterfinals to earn 30th overall. On the men’s side, Lars Sorom ’26 was the top Polar Bear finisher, in 29th place. In the Saturday 10k individual start, Crum finished in fourth, Grialou in 11th and Gillian Fairfax ’28 made it to the top 20, while Adam Carlisle ’25 finished in 29th overall for the men’s team.

WRACKING IN AT THE TRACK

The men’s track and field team competed in three meets this past weekend: the Boston University Valentine Invitational, the Tufts University Stampede and the Lynn Ruddy Invitational at Farley Field House. At home, the Polar Bears won the meet. Ian Stebbins ’25 rebroke his pole vault record with 4.90m, Noah Rockey ’27 won the 60m dash in 7.02 seconds and Kane Demers ’26 took the long jump with a 7.11 m jump. At Boston University, Ronan O’Flaherty ’27 ran the 400m in 49.05 seconds, making it to third place on the Bowdoin All-Time list. Meanwhile, the distance medley relay came in fifth overall at Tufts with a time of 9:59.17, ranking them fifth in the NCAA Division III.

BACK(STROKE) TO THE COMPETITION

The men’s swimming and diving team is currently competing in the NESCAC championships at Middlebury College, which started Thursday night at 7 p.m. and will continue until Sunday evening. Last year, the team took sixth place in the NESCAC, with top performances from Jack Tran ’26, who holds the second-best time in the 50 fly and third-fastest 50 backstroke in the conference, and Alexandre Grand’Pierre ’25, who won the 100 and 50 backstroke last year. If Grand’Pierre wins the 50 again at these NESCAC championships, it will mark his fourth consecutive year with the title.
