Rowers excel at Head of the Charles Regatta

This is the third consecutive year that both men’s and women’s teams have placed in the top 10 at this particular event.
The Head of the Charles is the largest two-day regatta in the world. It began in 1965, when Boston invited crew teams from all over the globe to gather on the shores of the Charles River and compete in an intense series of races.
“The river has such a rich rowing history,” said captain Katie Ross ’14. “The race itself is unlike anything else you can experience as a rower.”

Men’s lax ends season .500 in NESCAC, earns playoff bid
Over the weekend, the men’s lacrosse team celebrated its senior day with a sizeable victory over Endicott, 14-4. On Wednesday, however, the Polar Bears fell to Tufts in a 21-8 blowout that ended the team’s regular season.
In the first quarter of Saturday’s game, the Gulls held a 2-1 advantage in scoring until Billy Bergner ’13 netted three goals in a row to give the Polar Bears a two-point scoring gap heading into the second quarter. In the following period, the team extended this goal difference, bringing the score to 9-3 heading into intermission. Dan Hanley ’14 accounted for the only goal in the third period, and in the fourth the Bears outscored the Gulls 4-1 to bring the lopsided final score to 14-4.
Bergner, who was celebrating his last regular season home game, scored a team-high of four goals during the match. Griffin Cardew ’14 and Peter Reuter ’16 scored within 50 seconds of one another. Spirited play from Franklin Reis ’14 brought the score back to a tie after he netted two goals with only a minute left on the clock, bringing the score to 9-9. Despite the comeback, the Polar Bears then failed to contain the Bantams, allowing the devastating go-ahead goal as time expired. Skiing shines in record season start as Miller ’14 earns fourth at Colby
The men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams have begun their season with several strong performances, making for what Head Coach Nathan Alsobrook called the “best start to the season we’ve ever had.” According to Alsobrook, varying weather conditions and thin snow cover have done little to slow the team down, and although the Polar Bears only completed two of their six winter collegiate carnivals, Bowdoin skiers have already earned multiple NCAA qualifying points and set school records in both freestyle and classic events. The team opened its campaign at the St. Lawrence Carnival in Lake Placid, N.Y., on January 18, finishing 10th out of 13 teams.
