Last weekend, the women’s soccer team bested non-conference opponent Brandeis University in a 2-1 victory. Although significant because Brandeis is nationally ranked, Bowdoin also maintained their undefeated record (2-0-0 NESCAC, 4-0-0 overall)—the best team record since 2007. In addition, many of the key players in last weekend’s match were first years.
One of the most notable performances was from goalkeeper Bridget McCarthy ’16, who made seven saves throughout the game. McCarthy praised the dedication and hard work of Coach Brianne Weaver, who McCarthy said has been instrumental in her development as a keeper.
“We work to find my weaknesses then spend time in training improving those areas,” McCarthy said. “Her coaching style has fit well with the team and she has done a great job motivating us and improving the overall quality of the team.”
Also instrumental in the win were first year Audrey Phillips—who managed to net a high shot just before halftime off a cross from back Kathleen Smith ’15—and captain Molly Popolizio ’14, who one-timed a cross from first year Jamie Hofstetter into the back of the Brandeis goal to secure the victory.
The Polar Bears will return to conference play tomorrow at Middlebury at 11 a.m.
