BSG finalizes Ivies planning and approves moving out aid proposal

April 10, 2026

Bowdoin Student Government (BSG) discussed a mix of end-of-year logistics, the upcoming Ivies weekend and a new move-out funding proposal at its Wednesday evening meeting in Mills Hall.

Opening the meeting, BSG President Alex Kruse ’26 congratulated the winners of the recent BSG elections.

A large part of the meeting was dedicated to finalizing plans for Bowdoin’s Ivies weekend, one of the College’s most anticipated spring traditions. BSG Vice President Harper Stevenson ’27 emphasized the urgent need to recruit Ivies event hosts (E-hosts), who will monitor the festivities. Volunteers will be compensated with $40 gift cards. During the meeting, several BSG officers volunteered to E-host, fulfilling the requirement of eight hosts for both Friday and Saturday.

Next, committees updated BSG on their ongoing projects. The Facilities and Sustainability Committee reported on plans for end-of-year events and confirmed that the College would be purchasing offsets to retain its carbon-neutral status for the 2025 fiscal year. Additionally, BSG finalized plans for an Earth Day event next Friday on Coe Quad. The Student Affairs Committee discussed developing a “sleep initiative” aimed at collecting data on student sleep habits and well-being. Finally, the Academic Affairs Committee provided updates on its plan to improve textbook access for international students.

In order to address high student demand for boxes and tape when they move out at the end of the academic year, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee proposed providing free materials in order to aid students. BSG would fund $2,500 worth of 20-by-20-inch boxes for up to 250 students, as well as 85 rolls of tape to be distributed in residence halls around campus. Boxes would be distributed via the Mail Center on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of two boxes per student.

The plan aims to minimize stress, waste and financial strain for students with limited access to transportation or storage supplies. After a period of deliberation, BSG passed the proposal unanimously.
