BSG discusses upcoming elections, Ivies and committee initiatives

April 3, 2026

On Wednesday evening, Bowdoin Student Government (BSG) gathered in Mills Hall to discuss upcoming elections, recent committee developments and event hosts (E-hosts) and alternative programming for Ivies weekend.

BSG President Alex Kruse ’26 encouraged students to vote in the formal elections for BSG president, vice president, treasurer and charterer for the 2026–27 academic year. Voting opened on Thursday morning, and Kruse anticipated active campaigning through the weekend before polls close on Sunday at 5 p.m. Election results will be announced on Monday.

Additionally, candidacy statements for students running for a class council or committee chair position are due on Sunday, and elections will be held from April 10 to 13. Beginning on April 20, students will also be eligible to apply for general representative positions.

BSG Vice President Harper Stevenson ’27 announced that BSG is still recruiting Ivies E-hosts. Stevenson previously requested volunteers in a communication to student-athletes and urged all interested students to contact BSG. This year, E-hosts will be compensated with a water bottle and gift card.

Stevenson also sent a survey to residents of Brunswick Apartments about providing additional programming during Ivies weekend for students interested in alternate activities. Previous offerings have included a shuttle to the Schiller Coastal Studies Center funded by Student Wellness. Survey respondents indicated a consistent preference for a BSG-funded bus or train to Portland.

Committee chairs also shared progress updates on their spring initiatives. BSG Chair of the Treasury Chase Lenk ’26 reminded club leaders to submit fixed budgets for next year, along with any remaining requests for equipment. BSG plans to allocate remaining funds towards club gear, making purchases before the annual budget resets at the end of June.

Finally, Chair of Academic Affairs Giovanna Parnoff ’28 reiterated the committee’s efforts to install two Bricks, devices that can be used to temporarily restrict phone notifications and apps, in Hawthorne-Longfellow Library and Smith Union. The committee is also collaborating with the Office of Student Aid to prioritize textbook funding for international students.
