April 2, 2026

DEFENDED THE DEN

Last weekend, the baseball team (9–8; 2–1 NESCAC) took two out of three games from Tufts University (13–4; 1–2 NESCAC). On Friday, both teams scored all their runs in the fifth inning, including a Liam Foley ’26 three-run home run, but the Jumbos came away with a 6–3 win. The first game of Sunday’s doubleheader was a defensive battle, with Foley scoring the go-ahead run in the fifth inning for a final score of 2–1. The Polar Bears poured on nine runs in the second inning of the second game, ultimately winning 12–5. The team played Thomas College (4–11) on Tuesday night, winning 11–1 and will begin a series with Bates College (12–3; 1–2 NESCAC) today at 3 p.m.

Last weekend, the track and field teams competed at two invitationals, posting strong individual results. For the women’s team, Mardy Novak ’27 won the shot put and javelin at the Gordon Invitational, while Caitlin Heus-Smith ’29 won the triple jump. Kaylee Hale ’28 took third place in the 800m at the Bryant Invitational. For the men’s team at Gordon, Charlie Aucoin ’27 won discus and hammer throw and Oliver Neuenschwander ’29 won the pole vault. This weekend a handful of Polar Bears will travel to the Emory University Invitational, and a larger group will compete at the Black Bear Invitational hosted by the University of Maine at Orono.

MASS EXTINCTION

Last Saturday, the men’s lacrosse team (9–0; 6–0 NESCAC) snuck out a 12–9 victory over the Amherst College Mammoths (3–5; 2–3 NESCAC) at home. The Polar Bears never trailed, with Casey Ryan ’27 scoring the first goal five minutes into the contest, as the well-rounded offense was matched by steady defense, including Alec Delgado ’28 in net with 12 saves and Nico Schermer ’27 scooping up seven ground balls. The team also held a 15–10 advantage in faceoffs thanks to Cam Wiedfeldt ’27 and Alex Choi ’28. The Polar Bears went on the road against rival Bates College (7–3; 3–3 NESCAC) on Wednesday night, winning 13–10, and will host Trinity College (5–5; 1–4 NESCAC) tomorrow at 1 p.m.
