Housekeeper speaks out

November 8, 2019

This piece represents the opinion of the author .

To the Editor,

I would like to thank everyone for all your support for a living wage. I feel it was a little weird for President Rose to announce our wage increase right before “the fall social” and “parent weekend.” Now with my increase, my pay in July, as I understand it, will be a little more than $2.00 more than someone starting new. A lot of people are okay with this. Not me. I am in my 11th year at Bowdoin in housekeeping. I feel I deserve a whole lot more. I love being part of the Bowdoin Community but…

“I don’t feel respected as a member.” When I was a little girl I was taught right from wrong. I believe this is very W-R-O-N-G coming from Bowdoin College.

Sincerely,

Sandy Green,

Bowdoin Housekeeper
