The men’s track team worked hard this winter break, with several runners earning top scores.

For the first time in 11 years, the men’s cross country team sent two All-American runners to the NCAA D-III Championship race, which was held on Nov. 17 at Rose Hulman Institute in Indiana.

The women’s cross country team met stiff competition at the New England Championship this weekend, coming in 11th out of 51 teams.

This weekend Bowdoin will host the men and women’s NESCAC cross country championship. The men’s team is seeded third for the championship and currently ranked 11th in the NCAA.

The women’s cross country team had an impressive second-place finish this weekend at the Maine State Meet. Bowdoin was beat out by the favored Bates, currently ranked 23rd in the nation by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Polar Bears prevailed over Colby, who fought closely as a second place-contender.

Sam Seekins ’14, Coby Horowitz ’14, Greg Talpey ’14, Nick Saba ’14, and Kevin Hoose ’15 all finished in the top six, within 23 seconds of one another.

After placing third in the men’s regional final and eighth in the women’s last season, the cross country team will have to work hard this season to replicate last year’s success.

Bowdoin's track teams came away from their meets this weekend with major hardware. They won 22 events, and had three NESCAC Performer of the Week honorees between them. The men competed at the Maine State Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Colby, while the women hosted the Aloha Relays at home.

Facing D-I competitors, the track and field teams posted impressive results at the University of New Hampshire Wildcat Invitational last weekend. Chris Martin '12 was a double winner, claiming first place in both the long jump and the triple jump. He set a new school record in the latter with a jump of 14.54 meters, besting the existing record by .13 meters.

The men's club volleyball team concluded its season last weekend with its best finish ever. Bowdoin made it to the second day of competition at the New England Division II championship at the University of New Hampshire before losing to Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), the eventual winners, in straight sets (25-20, 25-20).

The Nordic ski team completed its season at the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association Championships much in much the same way it has performed all season: near the bottom of the pack, finishing 10th out of 13 teams. Head Coach Nathan Alsobrook said that the carnival was "as much an odyssey as it was a ski race. The sky was dumping snow all through the race and the wind was howling," which led to "very slow and sloppy conditions."

The Nordic ski team moved up in the standings last weekend at the Williams Carnival, coming in 10th out of 13 teams. Because of sparse snow cover, a relay race scheduled for Saturday was cancelled and replaced by a distance race.

A bout of bad luck hit the Nordic ski team last weekend at the University of Vermont Carnival: two of the team's top contributors were unable to compete due to injuries. "We've been a bit snakebit this year, with an unusual number of injuries and illnesses hitting our team," wrote Coach Nathan Alsobrook in an email to the Orient.

The Nordic ski team is just getting warmed up this season, which began with the Bates Carnival last weekend.

The men's and women's cross country teams ended their seasons successfully at the NCAA D-III championship in Winneconne, Wis. on November 19. Coby Horowitz '14 earned All-American status by coming in 13th place overall with a time of 24:30 on the 8K course.

A long trip for the coed sailing team proved to be worthwhile last weekend, as Bowdoin took second at the Atlantic Coast Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Though the Saturday conditions were mild, the regatta was cut short because of insufficient wind on Sunday. Pete Edmunds '14 and Mae Speight '13 sailed to third place in the A division, while captain Jeff Goodrich '12 sailed with Clare Henry '12 in the B division, which they won with 14 points.

The women's golf team finished ninth out of 11 teams in the Williams Fall Classic last weekend at the Taconic Golf Club in the team's last match of the season. First year Ursula Munger earned the best Bowdoin performance with a two-day score of 178 (91-87).

The women's golf team continued its winning streak last weekend at the Maine State Collegiate Golf Championship in Cumberland. Over the course of two days, Bowdoin trumped Bates by a combined score of 745 to 786. Three Bowdoin players—Kendall Kyritz '15, Ursula Munger '15 and captain Chelsea Gross '13—carded below 93 in the Sunday round that ultimately decided the tournament. Kyritz scored 182 for her two-day total, making her the lowest-shooting Polar Bear for the second tournament in a row.

The women's golf team earned their first victory this Sunday against Bates at the eponymous Bowdoin Blast, hosted by the Brunswick Golf Club. The Polar Bears won with a combined score of 375 to 400. Bowdoin's Kendall Kyritz '15 was the medalist in her first collegiate golf event (carding at 92), followed by Taylor Guiffre '14 and Bates' Bridget Dunn.
