The College recently elevated four faculty members to endowed chair positions in recognition of their work in various fields of study.

Professor of Biology Bruce Kohorn, who has been teaching at the College since 2001, received the Linaean Professorship, and the Charles Weston Pickard Professor of Chemistry chair went to Jeffrey Nagle. Nagle, who has spent the past 31 years teaching at Bowdoin, specializes in inorganic chemistry.

Professor of English Marilyn Reizbaum was awarded the position of Harrison King McCann Professor of English Literature. Reizbaum specializes in modernist literature, and concentrates on British, Irish and Scottish authors. She has been teaching at the College since 1984.

The William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of the Humanities chair was awarded to Jennifer Scanlon in recognition of her research on 20th century American women's history. Scanlon has been at the College for nine years.

"It's quite an honor to be thought of this way at Bowdoin, to be considered for this kind of an honor," said Scanlon. "It's really a validation of my work, my scholarship and my teaching."
