What song, artist, or album got you into music?
MS: When I was in seventh grade, someone played me "Pictures of You" and I bought Disintegration the next day. I played the disc out in a few weeks, ended my brief relationship with Green Day, and have listened to the Cure ever since.
What's the best concert you've ever seen?
MS: I saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds play with the Dirty Three a few years ago and it's still the best and most frenetic performance I've seen.
What have you been listening to lately?
MS: It depends on my mood, but recently a lot of quiet, singer-songwriter stuff?Iron and Wine, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, (early) Leonard Cohen and the like.
Favorite artist?
MS: It changes, but I don't think I'd last very long without the Smiths, the Cure, Joy Division, or Pavement.
Favorite album?
MS: I guess any list would have to include: the Smiths's The Queen is Dead, Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, Neutral Milk Hotel's Aeroplane Over the Sea, and Portishead's Dummy.
Favorite Beatles song?
MS: "Oh, Darling!" I know it's cheesy, but I can't listen to it without smiling.
