Mikey Jarrell, Wiley Spears and Matt Glatt, who also broadcast Bowdoin sports live and have a radio show, muse on sports at Bowdoin and beyond.

Matt Glatt: So how about Paul Pierce's game last night? Pretty impressive, especially with Rajon Rondo suspended for a game and Ray Allen injured.

Wiley Spears: That's what true superstars do; they step up when they're needed most.

Mikey Jarrell: Not so fast, my friend! Take a closer look at Pierce's statistics.

WS: Uh, yeah, I see 36 points and 14 rebounds. Sounds like a good day at the office to me.

MJ: He only made 12 of his 26 shots. Honestly, that's not anything to write home about. In fact, that's a pretty average day percentage-wise.

MG: So you're going to ignore the fact that he was the leading scorer and rebounder for the game on either team?

MJ: Well, the rebounds are impressive, but I'm trying to say that the points are just a result of him taking more shots than normal, not of him "stepping up his game" as everybody says.

WS: That's just stupid. If Paul Pierce wasn't the great player that he is, he wouldn't be able to make all those shots.

MJ: If you gave most NBA players those shots, they would probably do just as well. Give Brian Scalabrine 26 shot attempts (and 13 free throw attempts), and he'll score 36 points, no problem.

WS: Mikey, just listen to yourself for a minute and you'll realize you're an idiot. There's a reason Scalabrine doesn't shoot as much as Paul Pierce!

MG: He doesn't have a soul.

MJ: Hey now, watch yourself!

WS: He can't create those same shots. Kwame Brown can't cross-over his defender on one possession to get an easy layup, setting up a jab-step pull-up jumper on the next possession. Also Mikey, since you are so obsessed with percentages, why did Kobe only shoot 43 percent this season? There's no question Kobe's a superstar, and he shot way worse than Paul Pierce did.

MJ: I'm just saying, maybe we should change our definition of superstar. Maybe Kobe doesn't make the cut.

MG: I'm going to end this now. Wiley you win: Mikey has no soul. Prediction time.

MJ: Brian Scalabrine will score 36 points in the playoffs.

WS: Flyers center Claude Giroux will double his point total from the first round of the NHL playoffs.

MG: But no one will be watching because it is hockey.
