In her recital next Saturday, Katarina Holmgren '13 will sing selections that range from opera to musical theater pieces.

"Music has always been a huge part of my life," said Holmgren.

At the age of six, she began playing violin, joining a choir and learning how to play the piano.

Holmgren has been preparing for her performance since the start of this semester. She has been working primarily with Christina Astrachan, her voice teacher, and Professor of Music Robert Greenlee.

"I have grown so much as a singer through this process with their guidance," said Holmgren.

For one of her songs, Holmgren is collaborating with Artist in Residence George Lopez.

"I am really thankful to be working with George Lopez," said Holmgren. "He is a brilliant pianist and an amazing person who brings great energy to the stage."

Holmgren's love of performing coupled with her affection for music illustrates her excitement for her upcoming performance.

"I really can't imagine my life without music," she said. "It is such a wonderful means of expression and a beautiful art form."

Holmgren's recital will take place on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Studzinski Recital Hall.
