Cellist Maren Askins '12 will perform a classical concert on Sunday, the culmination of her advanced lessons this semester.
"In second grade, I bothered my parents incessantly about buying me a cello and they did. I've been playing ever since," said Askins.
The performance will be a family affair—the accompanying artist is Askins' uncle, who will fly up from D.C.
This will be Askins' first solo performance at Bowdoin.
"My last two big performances were not [at] Bowdoin," said Askins. "I was a featured soloist with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra, and I performed in recitals and chamber ensembles."
Though she is a seasoned musician, Askins said she is still slightly daunted by performing.
"I used to get really nervous," she said. "After the first few concerts, I started to get used to it. As of now I'm fine, but come Sunday [I might not be]."
She said she is hopeful that students will attend.
"It will be really great to share classical music and to inspire people," added Askins. "The audience is usually older, but I hope more students will come—it would be nice to have a younger audience come to appreciate the music."
Askins' performance will be held in Studzinski Recital Hall on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
