The women's tennis team easily dispatched the Wesleyan Cardinals 8-1 last Saturday in its home opener. The 12th-ranked Polar Bears remain unbeaten in D-III play as their record improves to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC.

The team gave up just eight points in the meet, which included an impressive 8-0 sweep at the No. 3 doubles slot by Chantalle Lavertu '13 and Hannah Hoerner '12. Lavertu capped a perfect afternoon, continuing her streak by picking three straight 6-0 victories in the No. 4 singles slot. Kellen Alberstone '13 and Emily Lombardi '12 also won straight set sweeps in the top-two singles slots while Kate Winingham '14 and Hoerner also took home singles wins to seal the 8-1 Polar Bear victory.

"It was great to come out this past weekend with a decisive win at home," Lombardi said. "I felt like we were focused and able to work on things that will help us in our matches this coming weekend when we play two highly-ranked teams."

The team will play No. 5-ranked Tufts on Friday and No. 1-ranked Williams on Saturday.

"The match [against Tufts] is going to be very competitive and a great opportunity to show how powerful our team is this year," said Hoerner. "It would be great to have that win under our belt before playing number one Williams on Saturday."
