Top favorite song from Winter Break?
"Tree by the River" by Iron & Wine.
What is your favorite song lyric, and from what song?
I change my mind all the time, but today I'm liking 'I found an island in your arms / A country in your eyes' from "Break on Through" by the Doors. That or 'La-lala-la-da-da-dum' from the Morning Benders' song "Excuses."
Which song would you have liked to sing with Neon Trees?
I only know that one song of theirs, "Animal." But I don't know if I'd like to sing it with them. Maybe I'd be the person that did all the hand-claps.
Would you ever join a band?
I would, but only if it was a Jethro Tull cover band. The rock & roll flute is disappointingly absent from music these days.
Name a song you love but do NOT know all the lyrics to.
"One Week" by Barenaked Ladies. I usually can get up to 'Chickity China the Chinese chicken / You have a drumstick and your brain stops ticking,' but then I crash and burn.
Why did you decide to become a DJ?
There's a whole long list of reasons, but it was mainly because I wanted to play with all the dials on the soundboard.
Who inspires you? If you could dedicate an album title to him/her, what would the title be?
My sometimes co-DJ (and current Her Campus Cutie) Tucker Colvin. The album I would dedicate in his honor would be called "Wind Beneath My Wings." There would also be a bonus DVD feature, which would provide the viewer with helpful hints and suggestions on how to become a Southern gentleman.
What is the best musical instrument ever invented in your opinion?
The didgeridoo—great name, great sound and an excellent conversation starter. Or the vuvuzela. It's kind of a tie. I do love the beehive sound at sporting events.
How would you title a song with the name 'Randy Nichols' in it?
"Snap Bracelets For All: The Randy Nichols Story." It would be a rap song, with background vocals provided by all the security officers. This is Grammy worthy stuff right here.
What piece of music advice would you give Justin Bieber?
I read on the New York Times website a while back that Bieber's mom didn't want him to sign with his label because the manager who discovered him was Jewish. So maybe he could do a Hanukkah album with Adam Sandler to make up for that.
Best rap song ever written?
"Rapper's Delight" by Sugarhill Gang.
Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato?
I don't know who these people are, so I Googled them. Based on their Wikipedia pages, I'll pick Selena, because she has a classier photo then Demi. Also because it says that Selena owns five rescue dogs, and I work at an animal shelter during summer breaks, so I like that about her. But I don't know any of their songs... I think I'm putting too much thought into this choice.
If you could meet any live musician or artist, who would you meet?
I'd like to meet Regina Spektor, so I could give her a hug and a high-five.
What's the first concert you went to as a teenager with your friends?
Jason Mraz at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, which, by the way, is one of the strangest places to have a pop-rock concert. I was 14 and went with my dad and my best friend. A few months later, I was back at Avery Fisher with my high school orchestra to play in the America's Youth in Concert series. I thought I was the bee's knees for playing on the same stage as Mraz.
Katy Perry's new song "Fireworks"—love it or hate it?
I'm not really a fan. I prefer the Sesame Street version of "Hot and Cold" because I think Elmo makes for a great singing partner.
What song do you like to hum?
Zooey Deschanel's version of "Sugar Town." It's just so cute!
