NATIONAL SEMIFINALISTS
This past weekend, Caroline Stuhlfaut ’27 and Zoe Sun ’27 of women’s tennis competed as a doubles team and advanced to the national semifinals of the ITA Cup at Berry College in Rome, Ga. The duo battled the nation’s top DIII teams and posted a 2–1 record in the 16-team championship field. Stuhlfaut and Sun kicked off their dominance with an upset of the No. 2 seeded Bell Zhou and Rebecca Kong of the Claremont Colleges, with a 6–3, 6–0 victory. In the quarterfinals, the Polar Bears won 6–3, 6–3 over Whitman College’s Emerson Bonner and Renata Rosell Puga. Stuhlfaut and Sun were eventually defeated in a tiebreaker by Clara Zou and Rosalyn Chan from the University of Chicago, who went on to win the ITA Cup. Nevertheless, Stuhlfaut and Sun capped a successful fall postseason for the Polar Bears.
BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN
Women’s soccer (5–8; 1–7 NESCAC) snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3–1 away-game win over the University of Southern Maine (7–8–2) (USM) on Wednesday. Bowdoin outshot USM 8–2 in the first half, and Sofi Rua ’28 converted at the 25th minute to give the Polar Bears a 1–0 lead at half. Dani Musry ’28 secured the win by scoring two goals in the final nine minutes of the match to clinch the victory for the Polar Bears. Southern Maine prevented a shutout with a goal during the last few minutes of the second half but couldn’t erase Bowdoin’s commanding lead. Women’s soccer returns to NESCAC play tomorrow at Connecticut College (6–6–1; 2–5–1 NESCAC).
NESCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Eva Filipponi ’28 was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week on Monday. As the goaltender for the Polar Bears, Filipponi has led field hockey (11–2; 6–2 NESCAC) to seven consecutive wins, including three this past week. She stretched her scoreless minutes streak to 366:20 until Sunday’s match versus Colby (7–6; 2–6 NESCAC) where she posted a career high 13 saves. Filipponi leads the conference with a 0.56 GAA this fall and has helped elevate Bowdoin field hockey to its current No. 3 national ranking. Filipponi will look to continue her hot streak as the Polar Bears close out their regular season.
