ALL-AMERICAN

Three students on the Bowdoin track and field teams earned All-American status in May, following the Division III Championship in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Charlie Aucoin ’27 (men’s discus) entered nationals seeded 22nd. In his first of three throws/rounds, he posted a mark of 48.15 meters with his second of three throws. Just shy of advancing to the final round, Aucoin finished 16th overall to earn the All-American distinction. Kennedy Kirkland ’27 (women’s long-jump), cleared 5.60 meters in her first jump of the event, finishing. She was five inches short of advancing out of the first three rounds. She finished 15th in the country to also achieve All-American status. Mardy Novak ’27 (women’s javelin) was seeded 11th prior to the javelin competition and made it out of the preliminary rounds, throwing six times. Her third throw, at 42.49 meters in distance, was her best, placing her 9th and earning her All- American recognition.

PROGRAM BEST

At the Women’s Fleet Race Championship this past May, the sailing team finished fourth—a program best. The Polar Bears had advanced to the finals after winning their semifinal, another first for the team. On the first day of the finals, an easterly breeze turned into storm conditions, though six races were completed before the stoppage. The Polar Bears sailed well in both divisions, earning top scores and sitting at third by the end of the first day. On the second day, the team finished almost exclusively in the top five. When the results were finalized, the team finished in fourth place, an all-time best for the program.

QUALIFIED

Earlier this summer, Ellie Saksena ’26 qualified for the Triathlon World Championships. In August, Saksena came in third in the Mixed Relay at the USA Triathlon National Championships in Milwaukee. She will represent the United States next September in Hamburg, Germany, while competing against top athletes from around the world. Saksena is a member of the Polar Bears’ cross country and track and field teams, specializing in distance. She competed in her first triathlon at nine years old, and her most recent in Milwaukee was the 24th of her career.
