Former College dean Roosevelt Boone arrested in Florida on Maine sexual assault charge

April 3, 2026

Former Assistant Class Dean Roosevelt Boone was arrested on Tuesday in Manatee County, Fla., on a warrant from the Brunswick Police Department (BPD) for gross sexual assault. Boone is currently being held in the Manatee County Jail while he awaits extradition to Maine.

BPD Chief of Police Scott Stewart said in a news release viewed by the Portland Press Herald that Boone’s arrest followed a prolonged investigation into a 2024 incident that occurred in Brunswick, though not on Bowdoin’s campus. Stewart said that the U.S. Marshals Service and the Maine Violent Offender Task Force helped bring Boone into custody. Stewart and the BPD detective on the case were not immediately available for further comment.

Boone worked at the College from 2022 to 2024 as an assistant class dean. He took a leave of absence before the start of the 2024–2025 academic year and left the College soon after. When asked about Boone’s leave of absence and departure, Interim Senior Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs Scott Hood said the College was unable to comment on personnel matters.

At the time of his arrest, Boone worked as an enrollment manager at IMG Academy, a preparatory school for elite athletes in Bradenton, Fla., according to his LinkedIn page. Before his time at the College, he played football at the University of Maine and had also worked in football programs at the University of Maine and Rutgers and served as a dean at Colby College.
