Highlight Reel for December 5

SCORING WITH EASE

Over the break, the women’s basketball team (4–0; 0–0 NESCAC) went on the road, defeating Skidmore College (1–3) and Union College (3–1). Against Skidmore, the Polar Bears won 68–46 with Abbie Quinn ’27 scoring 17 points on 7–12 shooting from the floor in 20 minutes, as well as ten points from Payton Collins ’29. Two days later at Union, the team won 68–56 with help from Quinn with 18 points and Grace Kinum ’28 with 17 points. The team had 15 more rebounds than Union  and 14 second chance points. The Polar Bears returned to the court last night at Bates College (6–1; 0–0 NESCAC), winning 77-70 in a thrilling double overtime game, and will play its first home game against Colby College (5–1; 0–0 NESCAC) tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Morrell Gymnasium.

SURGING AHEAD

Last weekend, the men’s ice hockey team (5–1–0; 3–0–0 NESCAC) took down Saint Anselm College (3–7–2) to wrap up its successful weekend. Despite giving up an early score, the Polar Bears were able to take control of the rest of the first period, with goals from Justin Wright ’26 and Ricky Volpe ’29 to make the score 2–1. In the second, Jayson Alegria ’29 scored his second goal of the season, followed by  a Colin Wojciechowski ’26 score to put the team up 4–1. Three more goals would be added in the third period as the Polar Bears outshot Saint Anselm by 11. The team will travel to New London, Conn. to face Connecticut College (3–3–0; 1–3–0 NESCAC) today at 7 p.m.

IN THE WIN COLUMN

Two weekends ago, the women’s squash team (1–1; 0–0 NESCAC) traveled for its opening matches of the season. After a 9–0 loss to Georgetown University (2-1), the Polar Bears turned it around to beat Franklin and Marshall College (2-4) 7–2. Ame Hamrahi ’29 earned her first collegiate win, followed by Amelie Matuch ’28 with a quick 3–0 win at the fifth seed. Mira Karande ’26, Ellie  Kennedy ’28 and Linley Grosman ’28 also won their matches 3–0, respectively. Darcy Weber ’26 was the final Polar Bear on court and won a close 3–1 battle. Both the men’s and women’s squash teams will play their home openers today at 4 p.m. against Dartmouth College (1–1).
