BSG votes on TFC funding guideline amendments and discusses TCC form

November 21, 2025

Bowdoin Student Government (BSG) met on Wednesday night in the Mills Hall event space to discuss and vote on amendments to the Treasury Funding Commission’s (TFC) club funding guidelines. They passed amendments to better define certain types of clubs and restrict transportation funding and rejected proposals to reduce funding for kickoff events and decrease funding for food and bonding. BSG also discussed a proposed new mandatory form for Treasury Chartering Commission (TCC) data but pushed the vote to the next meeting.

BSG began the meeting by continuing the discussion of the proposed TFC funding guideline changes from last week. Chair of the Treasury Chase Lenk ’26 reviewed the proposed guidelines, including supplemental budget determinations based on club size. The new guidelines would allow clubs to prioritize only one primary event for food funding and limit the amount allocated for food at other events.

Other changes in the TFC-proposed guidelines included clarifying edits to define and regulate “competitive clubs,” such as Model UN, and “subgroups,” smaller groups within larger umbrella clubs. The TFC also proposed reducing budgets for club kickoff events from $1,500 to $1,000 and limiting Amtrak and transportation funding for clubs if van certification for members is possible. Some BSG members and attendees raised concerns over the importance of club kickoff events and the wording of the transportation amendment. Lenk subsequently adjusted the wording to make it clear that if van certification was not possible for a club, the TFC would provide funding.

BSG later voted to pass the amendment clarifying “competitive clubs” and “subgroups” as well as the amendment limiting Amtrak funding, while rejecting the changes to kickoff, event and food funding.

BSG Charterer Tyler McGrath ’28 proposed a new TCC form for club leaders to complete after events. The form would collect data on the success and attendance of events for future club leaders and the TCC. Multiple BSG members and public commenters raised concerns that the form would be too much work for club leaders, that it would go unused and that the success rate would be overreported out of fear of losing funding. BSG eventually decided to push the discussion and vote on the form to the next meeting.

The TFC may choose to adjust the failed amendments and present them to the BSG at a future meeting.
