Letter to the Editor: Don’t punish righteous protest

February 14, 2025

Isa Cruz

To the Editors:

As the parent of a Bowdoin graduate, I am dismayed at the college’s authoritarian response to the recent student demonstration. The United States has been horribly complicit in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Where’s the respect for those who protest this atrocious violation of human rights? Does the college administration have a conscience? This could be part of an educational moment if the College could acknowledge its responsibility to confront current events and recognize student protest. Bowdoin could do this thoughtfully and respectfully, without punishing anyone. Let’s encourage students to engage in activism. That may be our best hope for the much-touted common good.
