February 7, 2025

BREAKING BATES

The women’s swimming and diving team took second place in the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) meet this past Saturday, beating Bates but falling just behind Colby. Four pool records were set by the Polar Bears, starting with Natalie Garre ’28 who won the 500m in 4:58.94 and the 1000m in 10:03.60, winning by almost 20 seconds. Garre also set a new school record with her 200m backstroke time of 2:00.62. Elizabeth Walsh ’26 won the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.28, a new record in the Bobcats’ pool. Harper Stevenson ’27, Sydney Lillis ’27 and Liv Smith ’25 also posted promising results in second- and third-place finishes respectively. Notably, Sadie Smith ’25 also won two diving events, scoring 268.35 on the one meter dive and 270.45 on the three meter.

SKI(RT), SKI(RT)

The nordic skiing team made program history at the St. Michael’s Carnival, an Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association event, coming in second in the women’s 3x5k relay, thanks to performances by Emma Crum ’26, Jordan Grialou ’26 and Gillian Fairfax ’28. Crum also found individual success at Friday’s race with a second-place finish in the 10k race, which consisted of two laps around a difficult, hilly 5k course. Grialou strayed just behind Crum in the 10k, finishing in 11th place overall, only four seconds off from the tenth-place finisher. Fairfax also finished 22nd in the race, with no Polar Bear falling below the 40th-place mark. The team heads to New Hampshire this weekend to compete in the Dartmouth Carnival.

THESE GIRLS ARE ON FIRE

This past Saturday, Bowdoin Athletics hosted its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a record high number of over 130 young girls coming out to Farley Field House to celebrate. Many women’s sports teams helped lead stations and the young participants cycled around, getting hands-on experience with the different sports Bowdoin has to offer. Bowdoin student-athletes from each sport took shifts leading activities and teaching at their respective sports stations, from dribbling basketballs to rowing on the erg machines.
