Gibson Hall burglarized in a case of musical mischief

April 1, 2022

Last Friday evening, a student’s violin was stolen out of Gibson Hall after the building was burglarized. The instrument was later recovered and returned after the suspect, now identified as Domenic B. Hutchins of Portland, was arrested the next day by the Brunswick Police Department.

Hutchins, 31, broke into Gibson Hall through an unlocked window and stole the instrument from a practice room inside the building. Hutchins was arrested the following day after he returned to Gibson Hall. The arrest came after his car, located in Park Row, was spotted by Bowdoin Safety & Security officers. In addition to being arrested with felony charges of burglary and theft, Hutchins was also served with a criminal trespass warning that bars him from all Bowdoin College property.

Hutchins is set to be arraigned on May 17 in Portland Superior Court. The victim of the burglary, Enzo Zhou ’24, declined to comment.
