This past weekend the rugby team suffered its first defeat of the season, an 18-3 loss to Colby. Despite the lopsided score, Bowdoin only allowed two tries, one within the last five minutes of the game, so the match was a close one.

The rugby team traveled to Bangor for its first official match of the season on a gray and rain-soaked day last Saturday. Maine Maritime Academy, a new entrant into the Division II North Conference, was extended a hearty and forceful welcome by the Bowdoin squad in a physical and exciting match.

Men's rugby ready to ruck after summer training
For many Bowdoin students, the summer is a time for internships or beach bumming. The rugby team, however, had a very active summer season in preparation for what is hoped to be another successful year. The summer highlight for the ruggers was the Fourth of July Sevens Tournament, an exhausting three days of rugby. The tournament drew players from all over Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York. The star of the weekend was without a doubt Jack Clancy '07, who time and time again made a complete mess of the opposition's defense.

Men?s rugby showcases All-Stars
This past Saturday, a group of Bowdoin ruggers left Ivies Weekend behind for a day and made their way down to Boston to take part in the New England Rugby Union Cup. As part of an All-Maine squad including players from Colby, University of Maine Farmington, and UMaine Orono, they played against other amalgamated collegiate teams hailing from Boston and New Hampshire.

Maine Maritime no match for rugby
It was a perfect day for rugby in Brunswick, Maine, as Bowdoin's ruggers took to the pitch last Saturday against Maine Maritime. Fueled by the warm spring weather and the largest home crowd on hand this year, the Black Pack put on a display of rugby skills and dazzled both the opposition and the eager masses.

Rugby brings the pain
The Bowdoin Men's Rugby Team kicked off its spring season with a solid 16-12 victory over Babson this past Saturday. The Babson squad had two emotional victories over Bowdoin in the past two years, once in the regular season in 2003 and once in the New England playoffs in 2002, but that only served as motivation for the Bowdoin ruggers.

The Bowdoin Ruggers arrived to the soggy swamp of the Colby rugby pitch in Waterville a stoic and solemn bunch, knowing that they were widely regarded as underdogs in their final game of the season. Colby had their eyes set on the New England Championships, and even the Vegas oddmakers had Colby favored 5 to 1.
