Richard F. Thomas, professor of classics and director of undergraduate studies in the classics department at Harvard University, will deliver a lecture on Wednesday that should appeal to classics and English majors alike.

The talk, "Virgil, Spenser, and Marvell," will discuss how the Virgilian pastoral has been received by English Renaissance literature.

Thomas has authored several books on Virgil, including the soon-to-be-published "Virgil Encyclopedia." He is also the trustee of Loeb Classical Library, a 515-volume series of quintessential Latin and Greek texts paired with their English translations.

Barbara Boyd, the chair of the classics department, characterized Thomas as an "internationally-known scholar of Latin poetry."

The lecture is sponsored by the Classics and English departments.

It will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Lancaster Lounge in Moulton Union.
