After receiving approval from the Town of Brunswick yesterday, the plan to demolish the J.H. Bowker Double House in order to build a parking lot will proceed, according to Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer Catherine Longley.

Although the plan to demolish Bowker House, which was built at 4-6 Cleaveland Street in the 1850s by the Bowker family, was initially met with some resistance from town residents. Longley said she expects plans to proceed quickly from this point on.

"We have the green light that we can move forward," said Longley. "I would say that probably in the next couple of weeks it will come down."

Construction of the parking lot, however, will be postponed until at least October, after the Maine Department of Transportation finishes improvements to the adjacent intersection that are scheduled to begin in July.
