Artist Anna Schuleit returned to campus this week to talk with the community about her latest creative pursuits. Schuleit was last at Bowdoin in early 2008, when she was the Coastal Studies Center artist in residence.

On Wednesday night, Schuleit spoke about her work, focusing on her latest projects: a set-design for the New York City Chocolate Factory Theater's production of Ivy Baldwin Dance and a large site-specific outdoor painting entitled "Just a Rumor."

Earlier that day, Schuleit visited with the senior visual arts majors and spoke frankly about her experience as an artst.

Schuleit's work—which has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Mousonturm in Frankfurt, Germany and here at Bowdoin—ranges from paintings to site-specific installations.

"I try to keep the balance between the two so that my studio practice can feed the larger projects," said Schuleit. "Each large project consumes one's entire reserves, while the studio work replenishes."

A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and Dartmouth, Schuleit has received multiple awards for her work and has been including being named a MacArthur Fellow in 2006.

Schuleit's talk was organized by former A. LeRoy Greason Professor of Art Mark Wethli on behalf of the Department of Art and was co-sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
