To the Editors:

Regarding last week's editorial "Business as usual," last year the library decided to open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays during reading period and exams, instead of the regular 10 a.m. So what happened last month? We simply forgot to open earlier. We apologize for this oversight. We will do better this spring and certainly will open at 8:30 a.m. on weekends during Reading Period and exams as we previously planned.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Jordan Francke '13 contacted the library before Winter Break to discuss this student concern. We will be meeting with the Student Library Advisory Committee to discuss the proposal to open H-L one hour before the start of 9 a.m. exams.

Regarding another point in the editorial, the library staff does not view the ability to access library resources before an exam as "small comforts that students can do without." To the contrary, we know the importance of the library to students. I also want to take this opportunity to alert students that the library hours Web page includes a list of 24-hour study spaces and locations where printing is available during hours when the library is closed.

Sincerely,

Sherri Bergman
