To the Editors:

The town of Brunswick is economically dependent on the College in many ways, but Bowdoin needs Brunswick just as much. I'm not speaking of nice perks like good restaurants—though I'm hard-pressed to come up with another college town of a similar size with so many great places to eat and drink—but of basic fundamental services. So yes, Mr. Sheth, please cut out Brunswick entirely. The next time a friend of yours gets too drunk to breathe, don't bother calling an ambulance to Midcoast Hospital for a stomach pump—he'll probably survive. Perhaps a shady guy with a knife breaks into your dorm basement? Don't bother calling Brunswick Police—you can probably just whack him on the head and he'll run away.

While it's natural for the relationship between colleges and college towns to be somewhat tense, Mr. Sheth's attitude is terribly unconstructive and full of contempt for those residents with nothing more than a reasonable expectation of peace and quiet. On behalf of all reasonable Bowdoin students and alums everywhere, I would like to apologize to Brunswick for the attitude of a small minority of students. We're really not all as bad as the letter might lead you to believe—unfortunately, the most immature and disrespectful among us tend to be the most visible as well.

Sincerely,
