Before the College transitioned to remote learning, students in Professor of Physics Madeleine Msall’s Methods of Experimental Physics course worked for six hours a week in the basement laboratory of Searles Science Building using sophisticated equipment.
At around 2:15 a.m. on Monday morning, a lit candle ignited a jacket and a bedspread, activating the smoke alarm in Baxter House. A student in the room extinguished the fire, resulting in a minor hand injury.
From this week until Thanksgiving break, Peer Health will hold its annual Peer 2 Peer conversations with first years. According to the website of the Office of Residential Life (ResLife), these conversations aim to help first year students navigate their transition to college by providing them with the opportunity to discuss alcohol and drug use with trained upperclassmen and to reflect on different aspects of their Bowdoin experience thus far.
With the introduction of the new schedule, most students on campus now have 10 minutes—instead of five, as in past years—between back-to-back classes. However, more than 50 students have a five-minute interchange between certain classes, and at least 15 have no time between two of their classes, according to class rosters.
The softball team is sliding into the NESCAC Championship Tournament this weekend, facing off against Middlebury on Saturday. The Polar Bears (29-11, NESCAC 9-3) finished second in the NESCAC East Conference, while the Panthers (20-10, NESCAC 5-6) finished third in the West.
Life imitates art. Or rather, for Miscellania, life just might imitate the hit 2012 movie “Pitch Perfect.” The group, Bowdoin’s only exclusively female a cappella group, will appear on the Boston television show “Sing That Thing!” tonight at 8 p.m.
After a low turnout in the off-campus housing lottery, this year’s on-campus housing lottery will open the fifth floor of West Hall to upperclass students. According to Lisa Rendall, director of housing operations, the change was made to ensure that all students who enter the lottery will secure a room.
The Roux Center for the Environment is on track for its scheduled opening next fall, according to Matt Orlando, senior vice president for finance and administration and treasurer of the College. With a $16.5 million budget—$10 million of which was a gift by David and Barbara Roux P’14—the 29,000 square-foot, three-storied building will have four labs dedicated to student coursework, two classrooms and a large flexible classroom space, as well as a variety of common areas.
