REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Last weekend, the women’s basketball team (20–1; 8–0 NESCAC) defeated Middlebury College (12–10; 3–5 NESCAC) and Williams College (10–12; 3–5 NESCAC) in its last two road conference games of the season. With plenty of offensive firepower, the Polar Bears outscored the Panthers 31–9 in the last 15 minutes of the game to make the final score 75–47. Against Williams, Grace Kinum ’28 helped overcome that surge for the Polar Bears, matching her career high of 26 points. The team will return to Morrell Gymnasium for its last two regular season home games, starting tonight versus Wesleyan University (6–14; 1–7 NESCAC) at 7 p.m.
MAINE STATE CHAMPS
Last Saturday, the women’s track and field team won its fourth straight Maine State Championship. Hosted by Bates College this year, the Polar Bears scored 220 points to defeat the home team, which finished with 186 points. Kennedy Kirkland ’27 set a meet record in the long jump for her 5.72m leap, Bridget Lopez Valenzuela ’29 won the high jump (1.53m) and Sophie Maguire ’26 took first in the pole vault (3.30m). The Polar Bears also won all the distance races, including the 800m by Kaylee Hale ’28, Laura White ’29 in the 1000m, Audrey Stevens ’28 in the mile and Leta Griffith ’29 in the 3000m. The team will host the Lynn Ruddy Invitational today and tomorrow and will compete in the Valentine’s Invite at Boston University.
SOLID PERFORMANCES
Last Saturday, the men’s track and field team took second place in the Maine State Championship, 20 points behind the hosts, Bates College. Kane Demers ’26 won both the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.30s and the long jump with a distance of 6.82m. The team captain also finished second in the 60m dash and the 200m race. Matthew Servin ’27 won the mile for the Polar Bears. A handful of second-place finishes boosted the score, with Seamus McDonough ’27 in the 3000m and Axel Nzi ’28 in the 5k and the 4x400m relay group. The team hosts the Lynn Ruddy Invitational today and tomorrow, as well as competing in the Valentine’s Invite at Boston University.
