GOING THE DISTANCE
Last weekend, the men’s and women’s cross country teams were in New London, Conn. for the NESCAC Championship meet. The women’s team finished in 7th place in the 6k race, with Laura White ’29 continuing her speedy first-year campaign with the team’s best finish, 17th place overall in 21:58.2. Unfortunately, the men’s team, plagued with numerous illnesses and injuries, ended with an 11th place finish. Captain Seamus McDonough ’27 led the way for the Polar Bears, finishing in 29th in a time of 25:18.6. The team is off this weekend, though select members who qualified will travel back to Hopkinton, N.H. for the NCAA East Regional Championship on November 15.
NEXT FOOT FORWARD
Last Saturday, the men’s soccer team (10–3–3; 5–2–3) was eliminated from the NESCAC tournament, falling to Middlebury College (9–4–2; 4–4–2 NESCAC) 2–1 at home. The Polar Bears struck first with a Liam Myers ’28 goal off a free kick from Tyler Huck ’26. Middlebury tied the game in the 74th minute, followed by a free kick goal with less than ten minutes remaining. The Polar Bears had a handful of opportunities to tie the game but couldn’t convert in the final minutes. Despite the loss, the team is set to at minimum host the first round of the NCAA DIII Tournament starting on November 15. The team is currently ranked 10th in the country, and the NCAA selection show is this coming Monday.
FIRED UP
The field hockey team (9–7; 5–5 NESCAC) came out firing last Saturday at Middlebury College (12–4; 7–3 NESCAC), scoring the first goal in the NESCAC quarterfinal matchup. Mackay Bommer ’26 started the scoring off a ball from Maddie Mrva ’27. Middlebury then fired off two goals to take a 2–1 lead in the third quarter. Fei Yang-Sady ’29 tied the game late in the third quarter, which sent the game into overtime. A few minutes into the extra time, Middlebury scored to end the game. The Polar Bears are currently ranked 14th in the country, and after the results of this weekend’s conference tournaments come in, there is a chance the team will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA DIII tournament. The selection show will take place on Sunday at 9 p.m.
