BSG follows up on tuition increase, plans for Halloween and discusses Thanksgiving break transportation
October 31, 2025
On Wednesday night, Bowdoin Student Government (BSG) convened in Mills Hall to continue discussions regarding tuition spending, Halloween plans and shuttle vans for Thanksgiving break.
Following up on BSG’s discussion with Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and Treasurer Matt Orlando at last week’s meeting, BSG Vice President Harper Stevenson ’27 divided BSG members into small groups to discuss which Bowdoin services they think are most wasteful. Stevenson also asked the group to consider what contributes to excess spending and physical waste, as well as possible unnecessary spending in clubs.
BSG Special Advisor Max Payne ’26 added that he intends to send an email to Orlando in hopes that student voices will be represented in and assist with decision-making on future spending decisions.
“[We are] hoping to kind of compile some themes and then send that to [Orlando].… It’s not like budget cuts are happening tomorrow, but we just want to have this student opinion streamlined in one place to send to him,” Payne said.
Giovanna Parnoff ’28 discussed the details of her reverse trick-or-treating proposal, which BSG discussed earlier this month. Today, BSG will split into groups and give out candy to different buildings on campus, knocking on doors in the early evening.
BSG also discussed further planning for the Library of Things initiative. A project that BSG discussed two years ago, the initiative would allow students to check out non-literary items such as board games, chargers and headphones from H-L. BSG will ask for suggestions from the campus community, with a live link on the BSG website for more information.
Regarding free transportation from campus to the Portland International Jetport during Thanksgiving break, a program that began last year, BSG sent out a survey to the student body on Tuesday. BSG plans to create a reliable schedule using these results to accommodate as many students’ travel plans as possible and is still looking for more volunteer van-certified drivers.
