SWEEP EM AWAY
On Tuesday evening, the softball team (14–16; 3–9 NESCAC) swept Colby College (11–15; 5–5 NESCAC) in a midweek doubleheader, winning the first game 5–4 and the second 9–1. In the first game Ellie Sullivan ’27 put the Polar Bears on the board after drawing a walk in the second inning. To conclude the game, Kyla Gary ’25 brought in the last run thanks to a hit towards the right field. After Colby started off ahead in game two, Elise Sicilano ’27 helped the Polar Bears take the lead thanks to an RBI groundout. In the fourth inning, Gary hit an RBI and Rosie Panenka ’28 scored on a wild pitch. Anika Ewert ’26 also hit an RBI in the fifth and Gary had a two-run walkoff to conclude the double-header and secure the Polar Bear sweep. The team plays Hamilton College (14–8; 5–5 NESCAC) tomorrow at 12 p.m.
NESCAC PREP
In its last meet before the NESCAC championships at Wesleyan University tomorrow, the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the Pine Tree State Invitational hosted by Colby College. Overall, the men’s team came in second with 134 points at the meet while the women took fourth with 111 points. Kane Demers ’26 won the 100m hurdles in 14.76 seconds and Adepoju Arogundade ’25 won the 400m in 53.40. On the women’s side, Astrid McGuire ’28 won the 800m dash in 2:15.46 and the women’s 4x100m relay team, including competitors Sophia Young ’27, Juliette Coley ’28, Anna Kim ’28 and Kennedy Kirkland ’27, came in second.
FLEET(ING) MOMENTS
Over the weekend, the sailing team competed in several regattas around New England. One contingent of the team raced in the Open Fleet Race New England Championship at Brown University, coming in fifth out of 17 teams. Both A and B divisions completed 12 races over the course of two days, with Thomas Hall ’25, Sam Bonauto ’25, Elizabeth Wire ’28, Timmy Gee ’25, Kique Ruiz ’26 and Holliss Hirsch ’25 competing in the A division. At the Women’s Fleet Race New England Championship hosted by Yale University, sailors Kyra Phelan ’26, Maizie Bartlett ’27, Lauren Russler ’26 and Mairead Ritzel ’28 competed to earn fifth place out of seventeen boats. The team now awaits selections for Open and Women’s Fleet Race nationals, which come out on April 29.
