Angel Olsen at State Theatre: Wednesday, September 25

Singer-songwriter Angel Olsen melds soft-garage rock with storytelling lyrics. Olsen’s latest album, “Big Time,” came out in 2022. NPR, Rolling Stone, Vulture and the Independent listed the album as one of the year’s best releases. Philadelphia indie rock songwriter Greg Mendez will open for Olsen.

The Heavy Heavy at Portland House of Music: Saturday, September 28

Based in the U.K. and inspired by Laurel Canyon, The Heavy Heavy will hit Portland at the end of this month. Citing The Mamas & The Papas and Fleetwood Mac as inspiration, this five-piece psychedelic group is now on tour for its debut album “One of a Kind.”

Briston Maroney at State Theatre: Tuesday, October 1

After competing on American Idol and playing guitar for the bluegrass band Subtle Clutch, Maroney has spent the last decade in the Nashville indie scene with hits including “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate” and “Caroline.” Minneapolis trio Why Not will open for Maroney.

Neko Case at State Theatre: Wednesday, October 2

This spooky month six years ago, Neko Case performed in a gorilla suit for a Halloween NPR Tiny Desk Concert. That same year, “Last Lion of Albion” made NPR’s top songs list. Case’s folky and sentimental songs also include “I Wish I Was the Moon” and “Star Witness.”

Panopticon with Exulansis and Primeval Well at SPACE Gallery: Tuesday, October 8

Panopticon’s style is described by SPACE as “musically progressive” and “red and anarchist black metal.” The band has been featured on LA Weekly’s list of top “arty metal” groups.

Gracie Abrams at State Theatre: Thursday, October 10

Gracie Abrams’s “The Secret of Us” tour will bring to life songs off the album such as “I Love You, I’m Sorry” and “Blowing Smoke.” After opening for Olivia Rodrigo’s 2022 tour, 25-year-old Abrams has embarked upon a career marked by early success with a No. 2 ranking on Billboard upon debut.

Boyscott at SPACE Gallery: Friday, October 11

Take the “Rocky Road” to Portland to hear Boyscott’s newest single! Since releasing its album “Goose Bumps” in 2019, the band has garnered a fan base of indie and surf rock listeners.

Xiu Xiu at SPACE Gallery: Thursday, October 17

Experimental rock band Xiu Xiu is on tour for its new record “13” Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips.” The record is, according to the band, “worth a good goddamned” (and worth a lot of dancing around SPACE).

Cavetown at State Theatre: Sunday, October 27

With songs like “Boys Will Be Bugs” and “worm food,” British artist Cavetown certainly seems infatuated with invertebrates. Don’t be spineless—see the songwriter this fall!

David Cross at State Theatre: Friday, November 8

Alas, for fans of Blue Man Group understudies, it is David Cross and not “Arrested Development” character Tobias Fünke who will grace the stage at State this fall. Still, the award-winning comedian, star in “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “Kung Fu Panda” and long-time member of Dr. Fünke’s 100 percent Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution is sure to please.

Six Organs of Admittance at SPACE Gallery: Tuesday, November 12

Guitarist Ben Chasny has been touring as Six Organs of Admittance for two decades. Now, he is joined by Bhutanese guitarist Tashi Dorji for an evening of alternative new folk.
