NEVER IN DOUBT
Despite a shaky end to its season, the field hockey team (9–7; 5–5 NESCAC) hosted the University of Scranton (17–3) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Polar Bears ran away with a 7–0 victory, led by an Emily Ferguson ’27 hat trick. To get the scoring started, Ella Davies ’28 entered the ball to Ferguson on a penalty stroke, then back to Davies who tipped the ball behind the goalie. Less than a minute into the third quarter, Charlotte Crawford ’28 hit a cross-field pass to captain Mackay Bommer ’26 for the score. Hannah Balmelli ’28 added two goals in the fourth quarter to extend the Polar Bears’ lead further. The team will travel to play Babson University (19–7) in the second round on Saturday at 11 a.m.
THE BIG DANCE IS COMING TO BRUNSWICK
Tomorrow morning, the men’s soccer team (10–3–3; 5–2–3 NESCAC) will take on Lyon College (10–6–3) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament. This is the second year in a row the Polar Bears have qualified for the NCAA tournament. Last season, the team won its first game but had its season ended on the road versus Trinity University. The College will also host another game between Roger Williams University (13–1–6) and the University of Massachusetts Boston (12–3–4) following the Polar Bears’ matchup. The winners of the two contests will play on Sunday at 1 p.m.
ALL-NESCAC POLAR BEARS
Ahead of the team’s postseason matchup on Wednesday, three field hockey players earned NESCAC honors. Forward Emily Ferguson ’27 was named to the First Team All-NESCAC, leading the team with 11 goals, which was second in the conference in the regular season. She also scored three game winners for the Polar Bears this year. Midfielders Maddie Mrva ’27 and Clara Noyes ’27 were awarded the Second Team All-NESCAC with three and two goals, respectively. The men’s soccer team also has three All-NESCAC honorees, headlined by midfielder Tyler Huck ’26. Capping off an amazing career starting with NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2022, Huck leads the conference in points and goals this season. Joining Huck is midfielder Jack Banks ’27 on the first team and defender Liam Myers ’28 on the second team.
