September 12, 2025
GONE WITH THE WIND
Last weekend, the sailing team competed in its first set of regattas this season. At the Maine Maritime Academy, Ethan Danielson ’26, Riley Donahue ’28, Kique Ruiz ’26 and Lucca Antonietti ’29 earned a qualifying spot for the NEISA Match Race Championships. In the Harvard Invitational, the Polar Bears came in third, fifth and eighth. At the regatta hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bowdoin finished seventh out of eighteen boats. The team will race at home tomorrow for the Barnett Trophy, a regatta that honors former Bowdoin sailor Nicholas Barnett ’11.
TEEING OFF
Tomorrow, the men’s and women’s golf teams will start their fall season. The women will play in Wellesley, Mass. for the Ann Batchelder Match Play Championship. Coming off of its program-best second place finish in the NESCAC championships last May, the team looks to continue excelling and improving. The men will travel to Middlebury, Vt. for the Duke Nelson Invitational. The men’s team also finished last season with a program-best performance at the NESCAC championships, coming in fourth place. The men’s home invitational is on September 27 and 28, followed by the women’s on October 4 and 5.
READY, SET, HIKE
Kicking off their 136th season, the football team (0–0; 0–0 NESCAC) plays Tufts University (0–0; 0–0 NESCAC) tomorrow at 3 p.m. at historic Whittier Field. The Polar Bears hope to take a leap forward in the standings this season after finishing seventh in the NESCAC last season with a 3–6 record, especially given the new conference allowance of postseason play. After four All-NESCAC players departed the team upon graduation last spring, the team brought in a strong first-year group who will play alongside a number of competitive returning players, all of whom are eager to make a jump in the standings.
