The end of the semester is a time for students, faculty and community members to showcase their artistic talents and knowledge. The Orient has put together a guide for the final visual and performing arts events of 2024.
December 6, 4:30 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Piano Recital
Brian Liu ’25 will be performing a repertoire of piano arrangements.
December 6, 7:00 p.m., Reed House — Open Mic Night
Reed House and the Bowdoin Music Collective will be hosting a space for musicians, poets, comedians and performers to showcase their talents.
December 6, 7:00 p.m., Burnett House — Moth Radio Hour
Burnett House will be hosting its final Moth Radio Hour of the semester, allowing students to share their thoughts on making a home and the importance of place.
December 6, 8:00 p.m., Kresge Auditorium — Improvabilities Show
Join Bowdoin’s oldest improvisational comedy campus group for its final hurrah of the semester!
December 7, 3:00 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — South Asian Performing Arts Ensemble
The South Asian Performing Arts Ensemble will perform pieces in ragas associated with time, ranging multiple languages, while sticking to the theme of Sureeli Saanjh (“melodious evening”).
December 7, 3:00 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Bowdoin Electro-Acoustic Ensemble
The Electro-Acoustic ensemble will be making its inaugural concert, directed by Professor of Digital Music Badie Khaleghian.
December 7, 6:30 p.m., Daggett Lounge — Old Time Country Dance
Join Dudley Laufman as he stuns the crowd with his wide-ranging musical abilities—bring your own instrument, too!
December 5, 6 & 7, 7:30 p.m., Pickard Theater/Memorial Hall — December Dance Concert
The Department of Theater and Dance will be hosting its annual December Dance Concert.
December 7, 7:30 p.m. & December 8, 3:00 p.m., Bowdoin Chapel — Chamber Choir Concert
The chamber choir, under the direction of Director of the Chamber Choir Jeff Christmas, will perform an expansive repertoire of works by Copland, Guttierez, Smallwood and more.
December 9, 4:30 p.m., Tillotson Room — Pop/Jazz Piano Recital
The students of Scott Martin, Bowdoin’s jazz and pop piano instructor, will showcase their talent on the keys.
December 9, 7:30 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Chamberfest
Come see the student classical chamber ensembles for a final winter showcase.
December 9 & 10, 8:00 p.m., Wish Theater/Memorial Hall — Student Directing Showcase
The directing class students will present their projects, with different works being showcased each night.
December 10, 7:30 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Student Piano Recital
The students of Beckwith Artist-in-Residence George Lopez and Applied Music Instructor Gulimina Mahamuti will showcase their talent on the keys.
December 12, 3:00 p.m., Wish Theater — Student Cabaret
Attend a night of free theatrical entertainment at the musical theater cabaret.
December 12, 4:30 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Classical Voice & Jazz Guitar Studios Recital
Take an opportunity to see fellow students perform in classical and jazz settings.
December 12, 5:30 p.m., Museum of Art — Opening Reception
Visit the opening reception of the history-filled “Art, Ecology, and the Resilience of a Maine Island: The Monhegan Wildlands,” followed by a tour of the exhibition.
December 12, 7:30 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Student Instrumental Recital
Cello studio students will be putting on an end-of-semester recital, showcasing their newly formed knowledge.
December 13, 4:30 p.m., Gibson 10 — Community Jam Session
Join people of all abilities and ages in a session that seeks out informal performance of pieces spanning across many genres.
December 13, 8 p.m., LADD Basement — Soul-Centered Performance
Embrace community at “Blending Sounds,” featuring Christine Ramos ’24 and Selima Terras ’26, as they perform indie R&B pieces.
December 15, 3 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Student Vocal Recital
Applied Music Instructor Mesa Schubeck’s students will showcase pieces from their pop and jazz courses.
December 15, 7 p.m., Kanbar Auditorium — Student Instrumental Recital
A night of student violin performances will occur under the direction of Applied Music Instructor Yasmin Vitalius.
