Highlight Reel for November 15

November 15, 2024

EVERYTHING’S BIGGER IN TEXAS

The men’s soccer team (7–5–5; 2–4–4 NESCAC), currently ranked 24th in the NCAA DIII, received official word that it would be heading to the NCAA tournament hosted by Trinity University in San Antonio, Tex. The team will first face off against Hardin Simmons University (12–5–2) tomorrow at 8 p.m. EST. So far this season, the team stands eighth in the NESCAC, after beating top conference seed and second seed in the country Tufts University (11–0–5; 7–0–3 NESCAC) in a penalty shootout during quarterfinals last week. Furthermore, Tyler Huck ’26 and Carlton Steinberg ’24 were named First Team All-NESCAC and Felipe Ruan Duran ’26 was named Second Team All-Conference on Wednesday. This NCAA bid marks the tenth Polar Bear appearance in the tournament in program history.

FIELD HO(NORS)CKEY

Two field hockey (6–9; 3–7 NESCAC) players, Clara Noyes ’27 and Maya Malenfant ’25, received all-conference honors on Tuesday morning. Malenfant—a midfielder—earned a First Team All-NESCAC and Noyes—also a midfielder—got second team recognition. Malenfant was in the top ten scorers of the conference this past season, scoring a total of nine goals for the Polar Bears over the course of their 15-game stint this season, ten of which were conference play. Noyes played both offense and defense corners for the team, earning five assists this season from penalty corner plays.

SECOND (TEAM) IS THE BEST

Goalie Charlotte Iannone ’26 and defender Jess Klein ’25, members of the women’s soccer team (2–7–6; 1–7–2 NESCAC), both made it to the Second Team All-NESCAC selection in an announcement made from the conference on Wednesday. This season, Iannone made 98 saves, 27 more saves than any other goalie in the league, only allowing 17 goals from other teams into the goal for the whole season. Klein started in every game and played for the full 90-minute duration of 14 of the 15 games played for the entire season, improving the team’s defense and helping Iannone reduce the number of completed goals by adversary teams.
