Highlight Reel for October 18

HUSSON FALLIN’ FOR FHOCKEY

The field hockey team (5–7; 2–5 NESCAC) posted a midweek 6–1 win on Wednesday night against out-of-conference team Husson University (6–6) on the home turf of Ryan field. Slightly more than a minute into play, Emily Ferguson ’27 scored the Polar Bears’ first goal closely followed by a strike from Mackay Bommer ’26, bringing the tally to 2–0. Husson then scored its one and only goal at the seven-minute mark. Ferguson scored yet again, closely tailed by a cross from Olivia Cunningham ’25 put into the net by Caroline Higgins ’24. Finally, with four minutes left on the clock, Elizabeth Kent ’28 scored her first collegiate goal. The team looks forward to its next matchup against Wesleyan University (8–4; 3–4 NESCAC).

ST. (JOKE)EPH’S

The men’s soccer team (6–3–2; 2–3–2 NESCAC) played St. Joseph’s College (5–7–2) in a midweek away game in Standish, Maine. The Polar Bears scored a goal in each half, finishing the match with a final score of 2–0. The majority of the first half stretched with no scores, but eventually Tyler Huck ’26 worked the ball to Felipe Rueda Duran ’26 on the right wing, who fed the ball towards Arthur Dos Santos ’28 on the left. Dos Santos scored the first goal of the game for the team. In the second half, Mateo Pacelli ’26 intercepted the ball and found Ronaldo Cabral ’25 to secure the Polar Bears’ win. Next up, the team faces Wesleyan University (5–3–3; 2–3–2 NESCAC) at home tomorrow at 1 p.m.

SUPERB SCHILL AND VICTORIOUS VECCHIO

After the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Singlehanded qualifiers on September 14 and 15, the Inter-collegiate Sailing Association announced the qualifiers for the National Singlehanded Championship. Both sailors Rebecca Schill ’27 and Michelangelo Vecchio ’27 qualified, marking some historic records for the sailing team. Vecchio is the first male sailor in program history to qualify for the open National Singlehanded Championships. Schill will be the second sailor to compete in the women’s national championship following the lead of former captain Christine Reimer ’24. Schill and Vecchio will compete in the championships on November 9 and 10 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
