Highlight Reel for October 11

SHOT O’CLOCK

The women’s soccer team (2–5–3; 1–5–0 NESCAC) faced Bates College (4–5–1; 1–5–0 NESCAC) on Wednesday, taking the win with a final score of 2–1. Jackie Shores ’28 scored both of the Polar Bears’ goals, first finding the net 14 minutes into the match with an assist from Kayley Huleatt ’28 and again with ten minutes left in the game to secure a Polar Bear lead after the Bobcats tied the game up in the second half. Bowdoin held a 17–9 edge in shots and led 6–1 in corner kicks. The win over Bates perpetuates an 18-game winning streak the Polar Bears have over the Bobcats, leaving their overall program record against Bates at 16–0–2. Next up, the team plays Trinity College (2–8–0; 0–5–0 NESCAC) in Medford, Conn. tomorrow.

JUST KEEP SAILING

Over fall break weekend, the sailing open team competed in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Championship at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The team sailed in a total of 18 races during the weekend, securing a bid to the Atlantic Coast Championship Finals at Boston College on October 19 and 20. Overall, the team placed 7th, with the A division coming in 10th and the B division finishing in 4th place. Thomas Hall ’25, Michelangelo Vecchio ’27 and Kaile Olson ’27 competed in A division while Timmy Gee ’25 and Sam Bonauto ’25 sailed in B. Holliss Hirsch ’25 competed in both divisions over the weekend as well.

LET’S RALLY

Over the weekend, women’s tennis hosted players from Brandeis College, Babson College and Colby College for a full two days of matches. In doubles play, the Polar Bears held an 11–1 record and went 21–4 in singles play. Suzanne Pogorelec ’28, Jamilah Karah ’25 and Candice Ballarin ’25 won all their individual sets with Caroline Stuhlfaut ’27 and Julia Ross ’27 overcoming Colby in their single sets. Furthermore, Pogorelec took down one of the nation’s top players, Olivia Soffer from Babson College (7–5, 0–6, 10–6). This weekend marked the end of the fall season for the team, with its next matchup scheduled for March 2 against Connecticut College.
