Vball sees sunset on '02 season
Although it's a scary thought, Halloween weekend kicks off the last week of competition for the Bowdoin volleyball team. With just eight wins on the season, the Polar Bears will not advance to the NESCAC tournament, which will be held on November 8.
However, the team will attempt to improve on its record in the State Tournament this weekend. Last weekend, the Polar Bears competed in the Hall of Fame Tournament. Despite winning a couple of games within the matches, the team came out of the tournament winless.
On Friday, the Polar Bears first fell to Gordon College in three games: 30-19, 30-17, and 30-24. Later that evening, Tufts defeated Bowdoin 3-1: 30-21, 30-28, 26-30, and 30-27. On Saturday, Mount Holyoke also defeated Bowdoin 3-1: 30-19, 30-21, 29-30, and 30-19. In their final match of the weekend, the Polar Bears dropped three straight games to Clark: 30-23, 30-20, and 30-18.
Hoping for better luck this weekend, the Polar Bears seek to prove themselves against Maine competition.
Although the Polar Bears have already improved last year's 7-22 record, the Polar Bears will attempt to tack on a few more points in the victory column before the season ends.
Likewise, blocking sensation, Jess Reuben '03, will continue her assault upon Polar Bear foes. Currently, Reuben has a team leading 91 blocks and 196 kills.
Reuben and the Polar Bears look to earn their ninth win this weekend in the State Tournament.
