While a final schedule has not been finalized, Bowdoin Student Government (BSG)  is planning a variety of events for Winter Weekend, scheduled for Thursday February 5 through Saturday February 7.

Thursday’s events, which were discussed at Wednesday’s BSG meeting, will include a free skate at Watson Arena during the day to be catered by Bowdoin Dining Services. At night, the Bowdoin Outing Club will host a range of events including board games, crafts and cookie making. As usual, free bowling will take place Thursday night at Yankee Lanes.

On Friday, BSG will hold a Polar Bear Dip midday in Portland, followed by a Blizzard Bash, catered by Pedro O’Hara’s, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ladd House before the men’s ice hockey game.

Saturday will feature outdoor activities such as sledding, horse-drawn carriage rides, the Polar Bear Run and an ice sculpture demonstration. At night, MacMillan House and Quinby House will host their annual Cold War party.

In addition to planning for Winter Weekend, BSG also hosted Chief Information Officer Mitch Davis for a report on a new Bowdoin Shuttle app. The app, which will allow students to order campus shuttles on mobile devices, has already been created and will be launched during the semester. Davis also discussed improved Verizon Wireless coverage on campus thanks to an antenna installed in Coles Tower this summer.

Afterward, At-Large Representative Kyle Wolstencroft ’15 spoke about the Committee on Facilities and Sustainability’s proposal to provide the dining halls with the Wall Street Journal. Students have requested The Wall Street Journal, and the committee believes that purchasing the newspaper would be worthwhile because it expresses a more conservative viewpoint. BSG will vote on the proposal next week.
